When a person is arrested and taken to jail, that individual will go before a magistrate Judge for the purposes of a bond setting. Sometimes the bond amount can be considerably high due to the nature of the alleged crime committed. If a person is unable to pay the full bond amount to the courts, that individual or family member can hire a bonding company to post the bond for a designated fee set by the Parish and State of Louisiana. The bonding company will post what is called a surety bond. A surety bond is set as an insurance to make sure the defendant makes all required court appearances deemed by the courts. If the defendant doesn’t appear for his or her court appearance, the court will forfeit the bond and issue a warrant for the defendants arrest. The defendant will be deemed a fugitive until he or she is either arrested or gets a new date.
